A Parchment of Betrayal

Did Peo Receive the letter?

 Deep in the annals of his 'forgotten', relics, a parchment was found. Though he swears he never received it. Perhaps he lied but the lie was for the protection of someone else and not for his own. But was he really that considerate? Was the Empire?

In the Militiverse nothing is face value. Enemies walk the corridors of power, politics and ambition rub shoulders at the same party so, who can you trust?

If you received this letter, would you go to Rome? Would you do as the writer begged? What if it is a trap? An elaborate ruse to get the strongest soldier away and then pave the way for the coup.

The letter below didn't quite make it into Peo's book, Tempus Mori, he refuses to speak about it, claiming that he never received it, his orders were simple and direct. 

Read it closely and decide what it means, decode it if you wish, but read between the lines…

An empire in ruin….or is it?

The cloak and dagger of the ascension to the throne in Rome was as well documented as the battles that the legions fought. But probably a little more subtle as senator conspired with general and with an influential citizen to canvas for his own, or his chosen successor.

In Peo’s time as Praetorian, the Emperor Aurelian was not popular amongst his subjects. His cruelty was legendary as was his greed. The writer of the letter is pretty clear where his loyalty lays, is it with Aurelian or is it with some other worthy opponent?

With the empire courting ruin, and conspirators walking the corridors of the Palatine would you trust the writer? Trust in the Roman empire was not in great supply, everyone had secrets, so to trust was either foolhardy or beneficial.

Is that why, Peo Satimus denied ever receiving this, damnable parchment?

 The Letter He Swore Never Came…Or did it?

Do I believe Peo that the letter never came? He puts up a fine argument but yet you can’t argue with the fact that he has it now, in his possession. He claims that after he was turned, he returned to his billet and got his stuff. Plausible but it is the Militiverse and Peo is a vampire after all.

That my dark academic friends is the madness of writing characters that are complex and devious and when they tell their side of things, well…they don’t always tell the truth, it is their side of the story after all.

Some truths are best left hidden, in plain sight…
